OTHELLO — Othello Mayor Shawn Logan received an award from the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) during a city council meeting on May 28. The award was presented by Peter King, CEO of the AWC.

“We’re here to recognize the mayor with the Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership,” said King. “It is a program of education we provide to elected officials throughout the state.”

The program has two parts: a basic and advanced. The basic certificate recognizes 30 hours of workshops and conferences put on by AWC. To receive the advanced certificate, participants must do an additional 30 hours and community service. Over the years, around 1,000 city officials have received the basic certificate, while only 300 have earned the advanced.

“I am here to recognize the mayor and thank him for his participation,” King said. “Congratulations, Mayor!”
